Energy Workgroup
The Energy Workgroup is organizing itself into an Energy Cooperative with the aim of helping residents and other stakeholders in the NSIP area and beyond be more informed about their energy choices and responsible energy consumption. The workgroup’s goal is for the NSIP area to decrease its energy demand by 20% by 2020 and increase the production of renewable energy in the area by 20% by the same year. Green Environment Workgroup
The Green Environment Workgroup is working towards “increasing water conservation”, “increasing water quality in neighborhood streams”, and “restoring, enhancing, and protecting the existing tree canopy”. Currently the group is working on organizing a “safe lawns” initiative in the community to educate residents on non-toxic and safe strategies to lawn care. Green Economy Workgroup
The Green Economy workgroup is working towards “increasing the number and quality of local green businesses”. The group’s first action is to create a distinctive certification process for neighborhood green businesses with a focus on open, community-based quality assurance. Mobility Workgroup
The Mobility workgroup’s goal is to “increase use of greener modes of transportation” within and thorugh the NSIP area. The workgroup doesn’t not have a chairperson. For more information contact Andrea Limauro at andrea.limauro@dc.gov
Green Social Capital Workgroup
The Green Social Capital workgroup’s goal is to “expand the community’s green social capital” by organizing events and opportunities to exchange and encourage the spread of knowledge about environmental issues in the community.
